Cannabinoids

CBG

Definition: A non-intoxicating "parent" cannabinoid that other cannabinoids form from.

CBG, or cannabigerol, is often called the "mother" or "parent" cannabinoid. In the growing plant, its acid form, CBGA, is the starting point that the plant converts into THCA, CBDA and CBCA. Because most CBGA gets converted as the plant matures, finished flower usually has only a small amount of CBG.

CBG is not intoxicating. Breeders have developed some strains that keep more CBG, and it is also sold in tinctures, gummies and blends, sometimes paired with CBD or THC.

Research on CBG is at an early stage, mostly in laboratory and animal studies. You will see plenty of marketing around it, but we do not make health claims about CBG or any other cannabinoid. Think of it as one more ingredient on the label, not a remedy.

When you see CBG listed, look at the milligrams per serving and the other cannabinoids in the product. A blend that leads with CBG on the front of the package may still contain THC, which will be the main driver of how it feels.

As always, the certificate of analysis is the best place to see exactly how much CBG and everything else is in the batch.
