Edibles are foods and drinks made with cannabis. Gummies are the most common, but you will also find chocolates, baked goods, mints, hard candies and beverages. They are usually made with distillate or another activated extract, and their strength is listed in milligrams (mg) of THC per piece and per package.
Edibles work differently from smoking or vaping. When you swallow cannabis, it goes through your digestive system and liver, where THC is converted into a different form. That means effects take longer to start, often 30 minutes to 2 hours, and can last 6 hours or more.
The most common mistake with edibles is taking more because nothing seems to be happening yet. Then everything kicks in at once. Start with a low dose, such as 2.5 to 5 mg of THC if you are new, and wait at least two hours before taking more.
Read the label carefully: a package may contain several servings. Food in your stomach, your metabolism and your tolerance all affect how an edible feels.
Edibles look like regular snacks, so store them locked away from children and pets. Do not drive after use. Check the COA for mg accuracy.
