Live resin

Definition: A concentrate made from fresh-frozen plants instead of dried ones. It keeps more of the original terpenes and flavor.

Live resin is a concentrate made from cannabis that was frozen right after harvest instead of being dried and cured first. Because drying and curing cause terpenes to evaporate, freezing the plant keeps more of its original aroma. The frozen material is then extracted, usually with hydrocarbon solvents like butane or propane, and purged.

The result is a concentrate that tastes and smells closer to the living plant: bright, fresh and full of flavor. Live resin comes in many textures, including sauce, sugar and badder, and it is also used in vape carts and infused pre-rolls.

The main difference from cured resin is the starting material. Cured resin is made from dried and cured plants, which can give it a different, often more mellow or "cured" flavor. Live resin is not necessarily stronger in THC; its appeal is mostly flavor and terpene content.

Live resin is easy to mix up with live rosin. Both use fresh-frozen plants, but live resin uses solvents, while live rosin is solventless, pressed from ice-water hash using only heat and pressure. See our guide comparing the two.

Dab live resin at lower temperatures to keep the flavor. Check the COA for potency and residual solvent results.
