Live rosin

Definition: Rosin pressed from ice-water hash made from fresh-frozen plants. It's considered top-shelf.

Live rosin is often considered the top of the line in concentrates. It combines two ideas: "live," meaning the plants were frozen fresh right after harvest, and "rosin," meaning it was made without solvents.

Here is how it is usually made. The fresh-frozen plants are washed in ice water and gently agitated so the trichomes break off. The trichomes are collected through a series of mesh bags to make ice-water hash, often called bubble hash. That hash is freeze-dried, then pressed with low heat and pressure to squeeze out the oil. The result is live rosin.

Because it keeps so much of the plant's original terpene profile and uses no solvents, live rosin tends to have bright, intense flavor. It takes a lot of starting material and skilled work, which is why it usually costs more than other concentrates.

Live rosin comes in textures like badder, jam and sauce, and it is also used in some vape carts and edibles. Many people dab it at low temperatures to enjoy the flavor.

Store live rosin cold if possible, since warm temperatures can change its texture. Start small and check the COA for potency and contaminant screening.
