Pre-roll

Definition: A ready-to-smoke joint made with ground flower.

A pre-roll is a joint that comes already rolled, so you can skip grinding and rolling. Pre-rolls are made from ground flower packed into a paper cone, and they come in several sizes. A half-gram and a full gram are the most common, and multipacks of smaller "dogwalkers" or minis are popular too.

Pre-rolls are convenient for trying a new strain without buying a full eighth, for sharing, or for anyone who simply does not want to roll. The label should tell you the strain, weight, total THC and the batch or lot number.

Quality varies. Some pre-rolls are made from whole buds ground fresh, while others use "shake" or trim, which is the smaller material left over from trimming buds. Neither is automatically bad, but whole-flower pre-rolls usually smoke smoother and taste better. Ask our staff what is inside a particular pre-roll.

Packing matters too. A pre-roll that is packed too tightly can be hard to pull, and one that is too loose can burn fast or "canoe" (burn down one side). Light the tip evenly, rotate as you light, and take slow pulls.

If you want something stronger, look for infused pre-rolls, which add concentrate. Read the label so you know what you are getting.
