Live Resin vs Rosin: What's the Difference?

Short answer: live resin is made from fresh-frozen plants using a solvent (usually butane or propane), while rosin is made with only heat and pressure and no solvents. Live rosin combines both ideas: fresh-frozen plants, made solventless.

Live resin in a nutshell

Live resin starts with cannabis that is frozen right after harvest, instead of being dried and cured. Freezing preserves more of the plant's original terpenes. The frozen material is extracted with hydrocarbon solvents in a closed-loop system, and the solvent is then purged out. Labs test the finished product for residual solvents. See live resin and hydrocarbon extraction.

Rosin in a nutshell

Rosin is pressed out of flower, kief or hash using heat and pressure. No chemical solvents are used, which makes it solventless. Live rosin is pressed from ice-water hash made from fresh-frozen plants, and it's often considered top-shelf.

Which should you pick?

It comes down to preference and budget. If you want a flavorful concentrate at a lower price, live resin is a great option. If you specifically want a solventless product, choose rosin or live rosin. Either way, try a small amount first, consider a low-temp dab for the best flavor, and ask our staff what's in stock.
